Storyline:
Marshall, Texas, described by James Farmer, Jr. as "the last city to surrender after the Civil War," is home to Wiley College, where, in 1935-36, inspired by the Harlem Renaissance and his clandestine work as a union organizer, Professor Melvin Tolson coaches the debate team to a nearly-undefeated season that sees the first debate between U.S. students from white and Negro colleges and ends with an invitation to face Harvard University's national champions. The team of four, which includes a female student and a very young James Farmer, is tested in a crucible heated by Jim Crow, sexism, a lynch mob, an arrest and near riot, a love affair, jealousy, and a national radio audience.

Denzel Washington and Forrest Whitaker performance was nothing short of spectacular i was very pleased to see this movie and all it had to offer i just wish the storyline was more historically correct. Aside from that it was a very good plot and wonderful acting from all actors. Must watch. You wont be dissapointed.

This film was terrific and a film that parents should make a point to take their children, who are teens, to see. Its message is very important in today's world and one that must be discussed. Yes, some of the movie was disjointed at first, and yes, some may say we've heard this message before. But the problem is is that we still have the same problems. So even though we may have heard the same message, obviously it's not getting through to enough people.
Kudos to Denzel Washington and Oprah Winfrey for making a film that is worth watching and discussing. This is what cinema should do -- make us think, make us talk, and make us act differently.

This is one of the most positive films I have ever seen. I feel it is for everybody, a true family film. Except for whiskey and very discrete covered sex scenes, this film can be view by all 10 and up. I t is very important for young people to view this. It shows how with many odds against you, the goal is yours to reach.
